1 ½ year old Tyler had the worst 3 days of his life. First he ended up at a Bronx Police Station, then he got put in a car and taken to sit in a small cage in noisy, crowded, chaotic Manhattan ACC, then he had strangers trying to do all sorts of things to him to check him out, including muzzling him, and then he no sooner gets into his cage & tries to figure things out, when a stranger takes him into a room where he’s stared at, his paw is squeezed twice, they give him food and then try to take it away, they give him toys and rawhide and try to take them away, and where they bring in a strange dog for him to do something or other with. That’s all in Tyler’s first 3 days of placement! So how did Tyler react to this onslaught! He let himself be examined and overall he appears in decent health. Then in his Safer exam, the assessor used words like “calm and relaxed during handling” to describe Tyler. He didn’t mind the stare, the squeeze, tag, and when that other dog came in, Tyler was absolutely OK with that. But Tyler drew the line at them taking away his food and tried to bite that big plastic hand. And he didn’t appreciate somebody trying to take that toy and that rawhide—after all, a guy has to draw the line somewhere. For that, ACC has given Tyler a New Hope rating, meaning he can only be pulled by an approved rescue. And to make matters worse, they’ve put Tyler on tomorrow’s euthanasia list. So tonight, Tyler needs to find that one person who sees in him the scared big baby who didn’t know the rules of shelter life. He needs to find the person who will show Tyler that he will always get his food, that he doesn’t have to protect it; the person who understands that at only 1 ½ years, Tyler just wants to be a good boy and wants somebody to help him grow up into the great dog he wants to be. If you’re that person, start applying to rescues to foster or adopt Tyler. But do it now, tomorrow Tyler will be gone forever—lets make sure Tyler is here to see his 2nd birthday!
