10 Most Influential Books Post a list of ten books that have influenced your life. Dont take more than a few minutes and dont think too hard. They do not have to be the right books or great works of literature, just ones that have affected you in some way. Then tag your friends. A Wrinkle in Time, Madeleine L’Engle - The first sci-fi themed book I can remember reading, also one of the first real books, as opposed to books for younger children. The Plague, Albert Camus - My favorite Camus. A Candle in the Dark, Carl Sagan - An intro to skeptical thinking. Influenced my view of the world pretty heavily. Pale Blue Dot, Carl Sagan - First book I purchased on my own, and it fed my nerdy little soul in a time before you could just go to the internet for all the news and info you want about your hobbies. Aint I a Woman? - bell hooks made me reconsider a lot of assumptions. Dated, but just as relevant as ever. Fun Home, Alison Bechdel - Just pure awesome. Ceremony, Leslie Marmon Silko - completely unlike anything else I had read up until this point in my life Foundation, Isaac Asimov - Spent a rather moody adolescent summer shut indoors reading classic science fiction. The Foundation and also Robot novels have stuck with me the strongest. Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy - Theres nothing to add. The Things They Carried, Tim OBrien - Along with Ceremony, this book changed the way I thought about narrative in books and the stories we tell ourselves. Seemed crazy deep when I was fifteen. ;-) The Other End of the Leash, Patricia McConnell -a beautiful book which inspired me to look more deeply into animal behavior and what science has to say about caring for and training dogs. Influenced both my work and my intended career path at the time. Also more proof I dont count so great in my old age. It was seriously hard to limit this list to ten that influenced me rather than fifty that I love.
