10 STUPID THINGS PEOPLE BELIEVE ABOUT PHOTOGRAPHERS: Working as a Photographer is great fun and is also very creative job. But often people do have misconceptions regarding Photographers. Let’s look at The 10 Stupid Things People Believe About Photographers. 1. Oh ! Its Just About Pressing a Button - No, its about visualizing an image before its made, its about framing and composition, its about getting the exposure right, its about choosing the right shutter speed, its about being at the right ISO, its about having the correct aperture value, its about setting the right focus mode, its about choosing the right lens and camera and everything else that you couldn’t imagine.(Its also about knowing what to do in post-production to bring out the best in every image after ALL THAT has been done.) 2. Friends Will Work for Free – -No they won’t. They have invested a lot of money (in their gear, insurance, website, advertising, marketing, materials, AND YEARS OF FORMAL EDUCATION.) Where are they going to get it back from? . 3. Better Gear Makes Better Photographs – - Like the famous quote – “As good as a good Stove makes better food.” (Or my favorite: Photography is not about cameras, gadgets and gizmos. Photography is about Photographers. A camera didnt make a beautiful picture any more than a typewriter wrote a great novel. - Peter Adams) 4. My friend Can Shoot the Wedding – -Your friend can take snaps at the wedding. But he won’t be as good as a professional. 5. Photographers mean always a Perfect Image at one Go - Some times lots of variables are involved in Photography. There are chances that he/she may have to do a retake. 6. Great Photograph, It Must be Photoshopped – -Most professionals get most of the work done straight in camera. And mind you, Photoshop is not the only editing software! Photos are not made in Photoshop. You have to make them in camera and then maybe adjust or do little processing to make to cover imperfections due to uncontrollable circumstances. 7. XYZ Takes Better Photos Than You - Every good photographer has his/her own style and work process. What you think is good may be worst for others. Its a very subjective thing which depends on visual taste of an individual. Well XYZ may be better, but in comparison with your visual taste for others. 8. Discounts and More Discount – Discounts are okay ! But there is always a limit. You cant ask for a discount on a discount. 9. Your Charge is Very High - Photographers invest hell of a lot of money in their equipment (again, see #2.) You can hire someone with a point and shoot camera for fraction of the charge (or even FREE). But will you?? 10. I Can Shoot Better Than You If I Shoot Regularly - Well then who stops you? Grab a camera, go shoot and make photographs. If you can really do better then you really should be doing it.
