10 years ago today Jordan, Hope and I legalized our commitment to be family. I am so grateful to Jordan for everything she has brought into my (and Hopes) life. She has brought all of the best of herself into this family and I have learned so much from her about what it means to live in the world with courage, integrity and grace. I have always felt loved by her (even when I wasnt behaving very loving myself). She has loved me through my moodiness and little bursts of depression. She has loved me through all of my various addictive/compulsive periods (like triathlon training, for example). She has also brought so much laughter, joy and absolute silliness into my life. Because of her, I have learned what it means to be a woman of strength, confidence and openness. I am so very grateful for who I have become in our relationship and who we are together. Different enough to keep things interesting and similar enough that its just easy to be together. And thats just me... what she has brought to Hope is something else altogether. She is an awesome awesome awesome mom. Patient, compassionate and sincere. She has been able to step in with calm and wisdom when I was about to lose it. She has grounded me and Ive been a better mom because of her support and encouragement. Hope, in many ways, is far more like Jordan than she is like me. They share the same taste in stupid ass movies (Death at a Funeral, for example), the same love of math and science (they actually like that stuff) and the same intellect and thirst for knowledge (I came home one night and they were in the living room reading Trivial Pursuit cards). I have no doubt that Hopes life has also been made richer and better because of Jordan. Our relationship is not perfect but honestly, its pretty darn close. We treat each other with respect, kindness and love. I can think of only one time when voices have been raised and it was in our very first year together. I have so much hope for our future together. Heres to many many more years of love and laughter Jojo. I love you.
