100 years ago today a group of 6 thugs tried to kill a rich guy. Their attempt failed. One of the 6, a 19 year old, after eating lunch, saw the rich guys car stalled in front of the diner. He got out and blasted the rich guy and his pregnant bride. The Austrian/Hungarian prince, Ferdinand, was dead. Thus, the first domino fell. Austrian/Hungary declared war on the Serbs and Yugoslavia, The Russians said no, backing the Slavs, and that caused the Germans to join Austria Hungary. The French had to join the Russians, and because the French joined, the English were obliged to join also. This is where horse armies met the mechanical armies, and they proceeded to fertilize northern France and Belgium with blood for the next couple of years. Japan joined the allied forces and took down the German colonies in the pacific. The US joined the allies after a boat filled with Americans got sunk, and added more and more ammo to the fire. so to speak. Millions of lives later, the winning countries, France, England, USA, Belgium, and a few smaller ones gloated over the win of the fastest death rate war in history, and imposed penalties the Germans and Austrians couldnt possibly repay. Japan, even though on the winning side, wasnt allowed to participate in the spoils of victory and were treated like one of the colonies, creating some resentment. The economic ruin of Germany for decades also caused some resentment, and fostered the public anger which allowed the crazies to gain control in both countries and Italy. These three countries practiced taking over lesser countries until they controlled the northern hemisphere, with the exception of England and North America. Japan stuck a knife in americas belly while Germany stuck a knife in Russias back. Russia returned the German-Russian love affair in the snow covered wheat fields of western Russia and eastern Poland. After Russia got the upper hand, US and England based forces gained a foot hold in France, and WW2 got going full force in the minds of Americans. A year and a half later,Yanks and tea sipping English danced with Vodka swilling Cossaks in Berlin, and began to divide up Europe again, splitting Germany in half. After the last whiff of the mushroom clouds dissipated over southern Japan, The entire world was split in two, setting the stage for the next, albeit Colder conflicts, which would last thru the end of the century. I wonder whats going to happen today?
