10AM NEWS UPDATE WITH Orange The Constitutional Court is yet to deliver its judgement on a petition seeking to remove Vice President Edward Ssekandi from Parliament. Mr Jude Mbabaali, Ssekandi’s former rival and petitioner wants court to remove Ssekandi from Parliament on account that he used government resources to win Bukoto Central parliamentary seat in 2011. The petitioner argues that Mr Ssekandi, who was Speaker of Parliament at the time of elections in 2011, should have used his personal resources to facilitate his movements. However, Mr Ssekandi’s lawyer, Mr Kiryowa Kiwanuka, countered that Mr Mbabaali had failed to prove that his client used government facilities attached to his office for private campaigns. Internal Affairs minister Gen Aronda Nyakairima has warned LC chairpersons and internal affairs staff against soliciting money from people registering for the national identity card. Speaking to journalists at his office at Kololo, Aronda says his ministry has so far registered over four million people in 18 regions. He however decried bribery that has slowed down the process as many people are left out. The EU has said it is willing to include Russia in discussions with Kiev about a planned trade agreement that sparked the crisis in Ukraine. European Commission head Jose Manuel Barroso made the offer in a telephone call with President Putin. Meanwhile, Ukraines defence ministry said one of its planes had been shot down over the city of Luhansk. It said the incident had resulted in deaths but did not say how many. Pope Francis has promised to stay neutral during the World Cup, and urged football fans to make the tournament a showcase for good. The Argentinian is a well-known football fan and supporter of Buenos Aires football club. But because of the rivalry between Brazil and Argentina he joked that he had been asked by the hosts of the 2014 World Cup to remain without bias during the tournament.
