11-11-2014, Tuesday, Veterans Day, 36 degrees, low fog, and Im issuing a Black Ice Warning this morning!...Ive seen these weather ingredients mix together too many times...roadways are wet, from low lying moisture...temps fluctuate 5-8 degrees from the hills to the valley...be cautious. Giving way to low 50s, sunshine...sunrise 6:28AM, Sunset 4:18PM...Humidity 100%...Barometer 30.4 inches...traffic is light... -Lunch Today...Beans and Franks...Franks and Beans...Chef Taylor said shes serving it in honor of The Old Farts...simple, basic, filling... -Todays pics...United States Marine Corps Birthday yesterday...no I didnt forget...I love the Marines!...and as you can see from the things I keep in the store...I HONOR them...Arel Spaulding, a Marine Vet friend makes sure I have a Marine Corps cap embroidered just for me- The General. A Marine Corps Helicopter Squadron stationed in Iraq in 2006, flew this flag over their base in Honor of us...yup...we Freedomites...here in Freedom, Maine...I received it, with honor, along with the Certificate signed by the Lt. Col....the cast Marine Corps emblem?...that adornes the front of the store, a gift to my daughter, Cadet Jane A. Bristol, Norwich University, from her friend in the Marine Corps, and the Marine Corps banner...well...I dont remember where that came from...and the First Cav Hat and Korean War Vet cap? Those are from my Ol Buddy, Herb Abbott...his family gave me these after Herbs passing...Herb wore these every day, very proud to be a Veteran...and he should be...marching off to the tank trenches of a frozen Korea when he was 18 years old...can barely get an 18 year old today to march their ass out of bed to go to work...oh well...times change... -November 11, 1918, at the 11th hour of the day...WWI ended...the war to end all wars!...humph...hows that worked for us?...a year later...the United States began recognizing Armistace Day or Remembrance Day...even after a declaration of The War to end all Wars...there are over 22 Million Veterans of The United States Armed Forces alive today...16.5 Million of those are wartime vets...7 million Gulf War, and post GW....7.2 Million Vietnam...1.9 Million Korea...and only 1 Million of WWII...hey...I wonder what they wouldve thought on November 11, 1918 as they were signing the Armistace that there would be this many veterans of future conflicts alive in 2014?...well...I cant dwell on that...were humans...were afraid of everything...and we kill out of fear...but...everyday I thank those among us, and gone before that put their journey on the line so thers could taste this thing called FREEDOM...for them we are Blessed...for our remembrance of them, we Bless them...join me...please...a Peaceful Veterans Day to all....from...FREEDOM...
