11:11 Jan 10 SA Flood Watch: North East Pastoral, Flinders, Mid North, Riverland & Mount Lofty Ranges districts. Details: Early Warning Network: ewn.au SA Flood Watch: North East Pastoral, Flinders, Mid North, Riverland & Mount Lofty Ranges districts Issued at 11:09 am CDT on Saturday 10 January 2015 By the Bureau of Meteorology, South Australia. This Flood Watch is a heads up for possible future flooding and is NOT a Flood Warning. Weather Situation: A low near the northern border of South Australia is expected to move south during Saturday and Sunday to be south of the SA coast on Monday. This system is combining with a tropical air mass to produce a significant rain band over northeastern parts of the State and the northern agricultural areas. This low will combine with an upper trough and develop further during Monday and Tuesday as it moves eastwards across the south of the State. Rainfall: Heavy falls have already occurred about the northern parts of the state with up to 120 mm recorded to 9 am Saturday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected during the period from Saturday through to Tuesday over the Northeast Pastoral district, Flinders and possibly the Mid North and may produce further falls of 50-100 mm with possible localised falls up to 150 mm. Areas of rain is expected to develop over southern parts of the State during Monday, then contract eastwards and clear during Tuesday. This is likely to produce falls of 15 to 40 mm mainly on and east of the Mt Lofty Ranges, with localised falls up to 50 mm possible. Flood Risk: The forecast heavy rain may lead to significant widespread flooding during Saturday, Sunday and Monday over the Northeast Pastoral district, Flinders, Mid North and the Riverland. Rainfall may lead to stream rises and possible minor flooding in the Mount Lofty Ranges during Monday and Tuesday. People in the area should monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be prepared should flooding develop. Travellers need to be aware that road conditions may be adversely affected and travel plans may need to be reconsidered. Some communities may become isolated.
