11.23,13_Daily Devotion “The Joy of Knowing the Facts about Gods Love!” 1 Corinthians 13:13 “And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.” By Dr. M.H. Salahshurian, Ph. D Before I expound upon this blessed “Love” chapter, I need to point out that the King James Version of the Bible refers to the unconditional love, as charity! The chapter which is consisted of thirteen (13), verses, all together starts and ends with a profound warning! In Vs. 1-3, we read this: 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 “Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all knowledge; and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.” And, in Vs. 4-7, we read how God is expecting us to demonstrate that love toward others! 1 Corinthians 13:4-7. “ Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” As we read through the Bible, we find that these facts are true about Gods love for us, and we find there are seven specific facts which attest to this truth. 1- First, we find, God loved us first! 1 John 4:19 “We love him, because he first loved us.” 2- Second, we find that love is essential to Gods nature! 1 John 4:8 “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” 3- Third, we find, God loved us enough to send His Son to earth to save us! John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” 4- Fourth, we find, God demonstrated His love toward us while we were yet sinners! Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” 5- Fifth, we find, God loves us with an everlasting love! Jeremiah 31:3 “The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.” 6- Sixth, we find, Gods love for us is inseparable! Romans 8:34-39 “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” 7- Seventh, we find, “love is of God...” 1 John 4:7 “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.” theswordandshield
