11 years ago you were take away from me, not just me but from all of us! An inevitable day but all the same one which shall always bear the saddest memories in my life. Today I stand as a PROUD SON, to celebrate your many unsung acts of selfless sacrifice. You were a champion, a hero and above all a legend. History has it on record that in 1967 you stood for election, with your erstwhile friend Joshua Mqhabuko kaNyongolo Nkomo backing you all the way. You fought the great injustices of the Smith regime through the power of the pen, your copy which you filed brought to the worlds attention the atrocious acts of a system and helped liberate Zimbabwe. At independence in 1980, you turned down the luxuries of political office to WORK FOR THE PEOPLE. As the project officer for Zimbabwe Council of Churches, you initiated a massive programme that sought to build capacity in the lives of many a Zimbabwean. You helped set up cooperatives throughout the country that would build schools, homes, income-generating projects such as poultry, piggery, carpet making, carpentry the list is endless. In 1983 buoyed by the success of your capacity building projects, you embarked on a massive project, which to this day is unparalleled. You had noticed in your travels to assess your projects that one big thing which lacked in most of rural Zimbabwe was education. Most mission schools had capacity to only reach O Level and only offering Arts based studies. You set about to correct this grave past injustice by ensuring that every mission school in Zimbabwe offered education up to A Level and catered for sciences and technical subjects by building classrooms, science laboratories, student dormitories which were all fully equipped with state of the art equipment. Even though some tyrant elements in the Mugabe government tried to torment you from 1985 - 1988 for your sterling work, God watched over you and protected you. During this time you were also critical of the Apartheid regime and in 1989 on a visit to show solidarity to the South African Council of Churches, the apartheid regime detained you at the airport and deported you after 2 days in their custody. All these awesome things you did, although they took you away from us sometimes for months on end, you made all seven of us feel special in your eyes. You would come and support us at our school activities, cheering us on to be the best we could be. You taught us the reverential and worshipful Fear of the Lord, though we rebelled, you showed us the power of love and today all seven of us are God-fearing men and women actively productive for the Lord. Above all you gave us or individuality and independence, teaching us that through hard work we can achieve our dreams. Today eleven years on the void you left can never be filled. Though the tears have dried, I still long for your companionship.you were my best friend, I could tell you everything and anything and you always gave me wise counsel! I miss you daddy. The Cancer failed to slow you down and for 23 years you showed it in whom you believed. When your time finally came, you peacefully answered Your Masters call to His Glory in Paradise. Rest in eternal peace Percy Phibion John Kadzutu kaSithole.
