13:43 Jul 14 WA Severe Weather Warning: Destructive Winds. South West and South Coastal Districts. Details: Early Warning Network: ewn.au WA Severe Weather Warning: Destructive Winds for people in the South West and South Coastal forecast districts Issued at 1:41 pm WST on Monday 14 July 2014. For people in parts of WA south of a line from Cape Naturaliste to Bremer Bay. This includes people in, near or between the following towns: Margaret River and Albany. Weather Situation An unstable westerly flow over the southwest of the state is producing thunderstorms and gusty winds. The weather system is likely to cause WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS to 100 kilometres per hour today that could result in DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. In isolated areas DANGEROUS GUSTS in excess of 125 kilometres per hour could cause SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE OR DESTRUCTION TO HOMES AND PROPERTY. Thunderstorms and small hail are also possible. Conditions should ease during the evening. Wind gusts of 120 kilometres per hour have been reported from Cape Leeuwin at 1:20 pm. This is typical weather for this time of the year but winds may cause damage to property and make road conditions hazardous. The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: If outside find safe shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams. Close your curtains and blinds, and stay inside away from windows. Unplug electrical appliances and do not use land line telephones if there is lightning. If boating, swimming or surfing leave the water. Be alert and watch for hazards on the road such as fallen power lines and loose debris. If your home or property has significant damage, like a badly damaged roof or flooding, call the SES on 132 500.
