13 years ago tonight, I was working EMS in Ripley and was visiting a friend who was working dispatch.....she gets a 911 call and my world changes......my house was on fire.....a few minutes later, my partner and myself are racing to Ravenswood......when we get close to the Ravenswood exit, I see black smoke billowing up from the city and my heart breaks....unknown whether my family was safe or not........since my street was blocked off, I jump from the ambulance and race toward my house trying to find my son. Relieved, I see him come running to me holding our little dog, he was safe. In that minute, I found out things mean nothing and I was thankful to God for keeping my family safe.......for the next little bit, I watch a great group of firefighters, who I am proud to call friends, fight tirelessly to save my home......it was a good stop, but unfortunately we had to tear down and rebuild.....that night I experienced first hand, shock....I dont think I ever properly thanked my heroes, co-workers, and friends. So.....Ravenswood and Silverton firefighters.....I sincerely appreciate and thank you for helping us that day! You all will always have a special place in my heart.
