13th May 2014: Luther Football League (LFL). The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea will look into developing Sports programs for its youths. Director for the Youth Desk, Mr. Reuben Mete anounced this yesterday in Wau, Morobe Province during the National Youth Sunday celebration. Mete donated two football jursey and urged Wau town youth to start hold talks with the Wau Soccer Association to register a Lutheran Youth Football team. This will be the first official football team for ELCPNG Youths but we have a lot to improve and work in if we granted acceptance to participate in Wau local competition. My aim is to see Lutheran Youth have a soccer team participate in the National Soccer League (NSL) by 2016 and this is the first step we are taking, Mete said. I want us to also have a Luther Rugby League for our Highlanda and Southern Districts ready by 2016 to take part in the Coca Cola Ipatas Cup or even in the Digicel Cup. Sports will be one area that we need to work on to increase youths participation and improve youths skills and talents, said Mete. There have been many aplaus by the youths when the announcement was made officially yesterday.
