14 August 2014 Although this is not equine related, Smiley has - TopicsExpress

14 August 2014 Although this is not equine related, Smiley has become a part of the project, and are known by many members, by updates made on him... He still works for us once a week, and learned SO much... He is much faster and able to do much more, unlike the time he was permanently employed. Out of habit, I speak to Smiley in Afrikaans only, as he would not understand English anyway. He now picked up a lot of Afrikaans words, and understand whatever I ask or tell him. He comes to the fence once a week, to ask what day he must come for work, and he would ask: Moet kom more? This morning he came to ask Maurice if he can borrow a fishing rod, as he would like to catch us some fish on the days he is not working... for himself too of course. Without hesitation, Maurice got him the needed things ready, extra hooks and sinkers, line, etc. To my surprise, Smiley got the rod ready, doing everything just as it should be. With the clothing Smiley has on, he is not very visible to the eye, standing out there on the rocks by himself, so I gave him a bright colored bib, kindly donated by Tracey Lutzke, as well as a baggy to put his spare tools, etc. in, which he can carry on his back. He is SO proud being all geared up, and smiling from ear to ear... A few minutes later, he was on the rocks to fish... He is now more visible, and if something should happen, anyone would be able to spot him... Dear Smiley, I am excited to see that smile when he does catch a fish and brings it home... Seeing him so happy and proud, makes my day...
