14 March 2014 - Rhino Friday - Dead serious... ...Graphic designer Gerhard van der Westhuizen in no way meant for this image to be humorous. As a great lover of wildlife, this image is his artistic reaction to the frustratingly severe Rhino poaching epidemic, with no adequate solutions found within his own country. There were, of course, no official statistics to be found this past week, but the unofficial ones we found show the Rhino poaching toll to have already reached 172 as of last weekend --- far more than the sum total of poaching during the entire 2009. There were a few good news announcements this past week (Arrests etc) - larger or smaller, every single one of them is a huge help in the right direction! Also, there is the international OSCAP conference, held on the 8-9th April at the Onderstepoort Lapa. VME will hopefully be attending this conference alongside some of S.As top rhino experts in debating the current Rhino situation. (See comments section for the details- see you there!)
