14-year-old boy among homemade bomb suspects in Kedah Posted on 21 September 2013 - 07:29pm Last updated on 22 September 2013 - 10:59am ALOR SETAR (Sept 21, 2013): A 14-year-old boy was among nine people detained by Kedah police in two separate raids in Sungai Petani yesterday. Kedah police chief Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said police also seized 10 homemade bombs during the raids conducted at 11.30am until 2.30pm. He said seven of the suspects were nabbed at a small and medium enterprise workshop while two in a house. Police were ascertaining whether the suspects aged between 14 and 49 were also responsible for two other cases involving firearm in Kota Setar and an explosion which resulted in the death of a woman last year in Sungai Petani, as well as other crimes in the state, he said. "The bombs can hurl a car as high as two or three storeys of a building upon exploding. The 14-year-old suspect could possibly be a dropout and we are investigating the motive for his involvement in the group," he told reporters when met at the state police contingent headquarters here today. Meanwhile, Ahmad said through the Ops Cantas Khas, police would carry out a thorough inspection on human traffic flow to the neighbouring country particularly during the weekends. "From yesterday and for a period of two weeks, Kedah police with additional personnel will carry out inspections at the Bukit Kayu Hitam border entry," he said, adding 40 people had been detained for various offences including involvement in illegal organisations. – Bernama
