15th Ramazan 1435 AH - Birth of Imam Hasan(a.s) As Salam O Alaikum, 15th Ramazan 1435 AH - the Birth Anniversary of the Leader of the Youth of Paradise, the second Holy Imam and the Standard-Bearer of Peace - Imam Hasan(a.s) Ibn-e-Imam Ali(a.s) On this joyous occasion in the House of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.w) and his Ahl-e-Bait (a.s), I wish to extend felicitations to the Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.a.w), Imam Zamana (a.t.f.s), the Ahl-e-Bait (a.s) and to all momineen and mominaat. As is the usual practice among the followers of Ahl-e-bait (a,s), please recite Ziaraat of Imam Hasan (a.s) and Ziarat-e-Jamea. Please also offer special prayers and nazrana to renew your allegiance to Prophet Mohammad(sawaw) and his Ahl-e-Bait(as). His (a.s) Birth and Name Imam Hasan(a.s) was born on the 15th of Ramazan in the 3rd Hijrah. His name was suggested by Allah(swt) through a Vahi [Voice from the Heavens] to the Prophet Muhammad(s.a.w.a.w) which suggested that since Imam Ali(a.s) has the same relation to the Prophet(s.a.w.a.w) that Hazrat Haroon(a.s) had with Hazrat Moosa(a.s), the name of his child should be on the name of the son of Hazrat Haroon(a.s) which was Shabbar – meaning Hasan(a.s) in Arabic. This was the first time that a child was named Hasan. His (a.s) Knowledge Imam Hasan(a.s), like all other Imams(a.s) was granted divine knowledge by Allah(swt) and he demonstrated it right from his childhood. Once he was asked What are the 10 strong things that are stronger than one another? He replied: Among the strong things is stone; even stronger is the iron which is used to break stone; even stronger is the fire which melts iron; even stronger is the water which extinguishes fire; even stronger are clouds that carry water with them; even stronger is the air which floats the clouds with it; even stronger is the angel who moves the air; even stronger is the angel who will give death to the angel who moves the air; even stronger is the death which will come upon the angel of death; and even stronger is the order of Allah(swt) which governs the death. Once the ruler of Rome asked him, Which are the creations which were born without a mother and father or Male and Female? and Imam Hasan(a.s) replied: These are 7 creations: Hazrat Adam(a.s), Hazrat Hawwa(s.a), the lamb which was sent in place of Hazrat Ismaeel(a.s), the camel of Hazrat Saleh(a.s), the serpent of Hazrat Moosa(a.s), Iblees and the crow that taught the method of burial to Qabeel. Some ahadiths in priase of Imam Hasan(a.s) 1. Ahmad ibn-e-Hambal, Tirmizi, Nisai, Kanz-al-Ummal, Sawaeq-e-Moharraqa and ibn-e-Habban quoted on authority of Hazrat Huzaifa(r.a) and Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri(r.a) that Prophet Muhammad(s.a.w.a.w) said – Hasan(a.s) and Hussain(a.s) are the leaders of the youth of paradise and Fatimah(s.a) is the leader of the women of paradise. 2. Tirmizi and ibn-e-Habban quoted from Hazrat Usama bin Zaid(r.a.) that Prophet Muhammad(s.a.w.a.w) said – Hasan(a.s) and Hussain(a.s) are my and my daughter’s sons. O Allah I love them so you love them too and you love anyone who would love them. His (a.s) Bravery in the battle field Although, Imam Hasan(a.s) is more known for his peace treaty, he was a brave warrior of Islam as well. His heroics won the battle of Jamal for Imam Ali(a.s). When his half-brother Hazrat Muhammad ibn-e-Hanafia, who was a valiant warrior, returned unsuccessful, Imam Ali(a.s) ordered Imam Hasan(a.s) to break the strong defense around the camel (which was the epicenter of this battle). Imam Hasan(a.s) led the fight very bravely and along with a few companions successfully demolished the defense lines and cut off the legs of the camel which eventually brought an end to the battle and resulted in victory for Imam Ali(a.s). Problems during and after his (a.s) life As with the other Imam(a.s), Imam Hasan(a.s)’s life was also filled with difficulties. From the very childhood he saw the faces and activities of several munafiqeen who left him alone in several battlefields, who objected to the Prophet(s.a.w.a.w)’s decisions up to the stage that some of them expressed their doubts that he was Allah(swt)’s Prophet. Upon the demise of Prophet Muhammad(s.a.w.a.w), he saw that only a handful of his faithful companions were there to bury him and the rest had left him to share political power among themselves. He saw the atrocities of Bani Ummayad (lanat byshumaar) in the way they treated the Ahle Bait(a.s) and hurled accusations against Imam Ali(a.s) after the killing of the third Hukmran (Usman Bin Afaan). He (Imam Hasan a.s) lived through the battles of Siffen and Jamal and finally saw the martyrdom of his father Imam Ali(a.s). As if all of this was not enough, even after his death the agents of Bani Ummaya (lanat byshumaar) continued their work against the Ahle Bait(a.s) and grafted stories of hundreds of marriages of Imam Hasan(a.s). Some mentioned that he married 70 times and other said that he married more than 300 times but none could count names of more than 10 wives. Such was the strength of their hatred that upon his death, he was not allowed to be buried alongside his grandfather, the Holy Prophet Muhammad(s.a.w.a.w). Some sayings of Imam Hasan(a.s) --Abstain from the unlawful and you will be a worshipper, and be content with what Allah has predestined for you, you will be sufficient, be benevolent to those who take up proximity in your neighborhood, you will be a Muslim. --Do not be hasty in punishing (someones) sin, and leave (room) between the two (fault and punishment) for apology. --The most preferable adornment is graceful manners. --The best wealth is contentment and the worst poverty is humility. --The annihilation of people lies in three things: Arrogance, Greed and envy. Arrogance causes destruction of the religion and because of it Satan was cursed, and Greed is the enemy of ones soul, and envy is the guide to wickedness and because of it Qabil killed Habil. --I wonder at a person who ponders over the things that he eats, how he does not ponder over his reasoning. He preserves his stomach from that which harms him, yet deposits in his breast that which is a cause for his destruction --It is for you to ponder, for it is revitalization for the heart of the perspicacious and the key to the gateways of wisdom. --Clemency is suppression of anger and self-restraint. --Generosity is giving in prosperity and adversity. --Befriend people in the same manner you would like them to befriend you. --Brotherhood is loyalty during adversity and during comfort. --One is ignorant of blessing as long as they are present, but when they pass, one becomes aware (of the value) of them. --Opportunities pass away swiftly, and take longer to return.
