16 June 1913: "A railway platelayer named Daniel Field, who was going home to Eureka, , ten miles- from Hamilton, on a jigger on a Saturday night, was run into by a train and killed. The train, which usually leaves Hamilton at ten minutes past ten, was half an hour late. It was only about a mile and a half on the journey when the passengers were surprised to feel the brakes applied, and the train pulled up. About fifty yards back there had been a collision, and when the guard walked along the line he found Field, who died a few minutes later." As reported in the "Auckland Star" newspaper.
