17 May 1986: David Wilson, 39-year-old Protestant civilian, - TopicsExpress

17 May 1986: David Wilson, 39-year-old Protestant civilian, married with 2 children and a businessman was driving his van from his hardware business in Castlecaulfield when he was ambushed by hooded IRA gunmen. There were about 30 shots fired which smashed the windscreen of his van. The IRA said that Mr Wilson was a high ranking UDR member. This allegation was denied by the UDR, RUC, and his family and friends. Mr Wilson had 2 passengers in the van at the time of the attack and it was said that none of the occupants had any connection with the security forces. Mr Wilson was a member of the select vestry and a choir member of St. Patricks Church in Donaghmore where he was shot. He was well known in the community and was a member of the Orange Order. A friend described him a: a hard working family man. He was a good husband, he was a good father. He had worked hard at a small do-it-yourself hardware business at Castlecaulfield. He had built that business up from small beginnings into a thriving business. David Wilson served all sections of the community. Religion never came into it when he was serving the community and I cant understand why he was singled out for such an attack. LEST WE FORGET!
