18th-19th century Turkish Ottoman Sword Yatagan-Yataghan. A characteristic ear shaped hilt is made of two pieces of dark brown wood mounted in brass; the recurved single edged Damascus steel blade is ornamented with silver inlaid Arabic calligraphy and arabesque design. A leather-bound wooden scabbard s with brass fittings decorated with design of foliage and scrolls, locket of the scabbard is in the form of the dragon head. The Yatagan sword was very popular not only in Turkey but also in many Balkan states and some Eastern European countries such as Ukraine and Hungry. The overall length with the scabbard: 84.5cm (33 ¼ in).
