19 years ago. On my way to work. Lots of Dead on the radio. I was psyched bc tickets were going on sale that Saturday for the MSG shows so thats why I thought they were playing all that Dead. Had gone to Ratdog the night before in Central Park, so I was going into work late that day. I park my car and as Im about to turn the car off, the DJ announced that Jerry had died. I cant even describe the feeling of my heart tearing at that moment. I grab my stuff and run into the store and the woman working there looked at me and said, Yes, its true. The phone had been ringing off the hook. I just turned around and left. Went to Kevin and Danielas house. Called my boss to tell her I just couldnt be at work today. She begged me to go back to the store bc the news cameras were on their way there and she wanted me to represent the store and be interviewed. Somehow got the strength to go back there. Kev and Danny came with me. Got interviewed by CBS news. Not even sure what i said. I was in such a state of shock, Im sure it was something stupid. I dont even remember if I ever saw it. Left, cried for the rest of the day and went to Central Park to celebrate Jerrys life. We were trying to get tix for the Ratdog show in NH that night but it was totally sold out.
