1949 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY CONVERTIBLE. One of the great - TopicsExpress

1949 CHRYSLER TOWN & COUNTRY CONVERTIBLE. One of the great Chryslers of all time with its wood siding & luxurious interior is almost beyond reach of even the most common car collector, now that prices have soared over $100,000. For what reason...I can probably give you five, but two right off of my head are rarity, & downright old-fashioned popularity, on top of the fact that these are not cheap to restore in the first place. The 323 cu.in. straight-8 powerplant the pumped out 135 horsepower most likely would set you back $6000 alone, & then there was the Vacu-Matic (Fluid-Drive) transmission that was actually a manual transmission with a fluid coupling, so you basically kept it in third gear...that cost a pretty penny to fix, not to mention the wood paneling on the sides..which was real wood. All added together, all I can say is its certainly no wonder a lot of these end up on the lawn at Pebble Beach!
