1970 Plymouth Barracuda AAR The AAR Cuda was Plymouths - TopicsExpress

1970 Plymouth Barracuda AAR The AAR Cuda was Plymouths homologation special to qualify the Cuda for the popular Trans Am race series. It was cosmetically different to its Dodge Challenger T/A cousin but was mechanically the same but both were very different from their competitors. Whilst the Chevy Camaro 302 Z/28 & Ford Mustang Boss 302 were more like race cars made for the road the Cuda more a hot rod than race car. It also differed in that it had a 340ci engine as opposed to the 302ci of the others when the rules for Trans Am stipulated a 5000cc limit. With its three two barrelled Holley carbs, 4 speed gearbox and side exit exhausts, the 340ci motor produced 290bhp & 345lbs of torque and got 0-100kph in 5.8 sec and was good for a 14.4 sec 1/4 mile. Production ran for one year only with 2,724 being built with all of them featuring the 340ci six pack motor and 4 speed box in the 2 door hardtop body. Dan Gurneys All-American Racers team ran the factory cars for Plymouth with Dan Gurney & Swede Savage the drivers. Highlights were 3 pole position starts and a best finishing result of 2nd at Road America. The model is 1/25th scale made by Revell. It is built box stock excepting a wheel swap from another MOPAR kit.
