1974.. Just outside the old Dohphin in Hanalei..For 25 bucks you could get yourself and all you could carry to Kalalau. On Helicopter Hill in Kalalau. Thats Bamboo Bill in the middle and an English guy named Brian on the right. Bill gave me his bamboo A-frame and I moved the bamboo about 1/2 mile further up the valley and built my place, so I didnt cut any new bamboo! Recycled! Lived there 6 months, hiked the trail in & out 19 times.Brother Joe & I walking out on his 30th Birthday. Kalalau Jacuzzi. Truly the good old days....
