1st XI Match Report v Larne Coleraine Ladies 1st XI hockey team played Larne in the intermediate cup running out 3-0 winners. From the whistle Coleraine put pressure on the visiting team with 2 shots on goal in quick succession. Eventually a penalty corner was awarded with the shot going wide. Soon after Coleraine were attacking down the right hand side with Kelly watt pulling the ball into Sue Nutt to win a free hit. Quick thinking Sue took an auto pass allowing her to drive into circle to win a penalty corner. Carol Ann Agnew provided the pass for sue to shoot on goal with Susan Chapman deflecting the ball into the corner to get the first goal of the game. The defence then began to be tested From Larne with Alice McGill and Ciara Richmond carrying out goal saving tackles and several key saves from Rebecca Crowe kept the score 1-0. Coleraine then began to attack again after some fresh legs got onto the pitch with great running from Niamh Lockhart and Grace Bradley allowing Sarah Harkness to wing a short corner. From the short corner Coleraine sweeper Alice McGill got onto the rebound from the initial shot and scored to make it 2-0 at half time. With the second half Coleraine again started out to ensure they kept the ball and build momentum with great passing between Sharon Kennedy, Alex Balmer and Sue Nutt. This momentum allied attacks down both sides with Niamh Lockhart and Zoe Campbell making strong runs into the circle forcing saves from the Larne goalkeeper. Soon after, Coleraine drove forward with Claire Adams before passing the ball to carol Ann to win a short corner. Again Coleraine converted the short corner through Sue Nutt. Coleraine again made changes to ensure the match intensity was kept high, Larne began to tire and Coleraine gained chance after chance. Not long before the final whistle Niamh Lockhart outpaced her opposite number to be clear in on goal before being cynically brought down. A short corner was awarded and converted before disallowed. Final score 3-0 with Coleraine returning to league action next week they will hope to continue their impressive run of form of 6 wins on the bounce.
