1st place Game Day deck for Saturday: Dustin Davis 4 Lifebane Zombie 4 Desecration Demon 4 Underworld Connections 3 Abrupt Decay 3 Heros Downfall 4 Pack Rat 2 Bile Blight 3 Devour Flesh 4 Thoughtseize 4 Gray Merchant of Asphodel Lands: 4 Temple of Malady 4 Overgrown Tomb 4 Mutavault 1 Golgari Guildgate 12 Swamp Sideboard: 4 Duress 3 Dark Betrayal 1 Vraska the Unseen 1 Heros Downfall 2 Drown in Sorrow 1 Abrupt Decay 2 Golgari Charm 1 Devour Flesh The main deck is designed to kill all the things, thoughtseize their disruption, and swing with Zombies, Demons, and Mutavaults. Gray Merchant is for low life situations and control matches. In control, you basically need to grind threats with Underworld Connections while Thoughtseizing away D-Spheres and Verdicts so you can try and ride a train of pack rats to victory. Mirror match sb: +2 Duress +1 Downfall +1 Devour Flesh + 3 Dark Betrayal. -4 Lifebane (because intimidate doesnt work here) -1 Demon -1 Pack Rat -1 Abrupt Decay. After boarding like this, you have 6 cards to take stuff away from them. Even more creature removal. The goal is to stick a threat and ride it. We take out 1 Demon and 1 Rat because theyre the most likely targets for Dark Betrayal and Bile Blight respectively. Control: +4 Duress +2 Charm +1 Decay +1 Downfall +1 Vraska. -3 Devour Flesh -2 Bile Blight -1 Demon -2 Lifebane. Basically you want to smash their D-spheres, take all of their draw engines, and get there with Mutavaults or Pack rat or any threat really like assassins from vraska. Aggro: -1 Thoughtseize -1 Underworld Connections -2 Downfall +1 Decay +2 Drown in Sorrow +1 Devour Flesh. Changes depending on Monsters or blitzy decks. Basically, you dont want to downfall to 1 for 1. You want to Drown in Sorrow and play removal on turn 2. And ride to victory. Thanks to Dustin Davis for his deck list and this detailed description of how to run the deck efficiently. I really do appreciate the thoughts on sideboard and what to do in various match ups. Thanks again for the article. Also, congrats on the victory! Tomorrow, we will be showing Nathans deck in a similar article.
