I never made anything sport related before, so this was a glorious opportunity to try something new. Never even heard of “Skeleton”, though the name certainly sounded intriguing. Only after I watched the POV footage with Rozalinds backing-track, experiencing the butterflies in my stomach I realized how crazy some Canadian sports can be. The first half of the film was the POV footage of skeleton athlete, Alexis Morris going down the Canada Olympic Park ice track. The second half, she told me, was all up to me. A hint I got was “the high you feel when you reach the bottom of that track”. As Im not the “slide 90 kilometres per hour on your belly” and more of a “I like staring at televisions on static in the dark” kind of guy, my vision of the high could only be felt in odd extremes and quickly ended up with a severely dangerous epileptic inducing vector animation (people who know my work probably know what Im talking about). Theres a lot of the nostalgic old video-game/MSDOS batch-file/demo-scene vibe Im really interested in. I tried to stay true to the open-source formula. Being an avid Linux user, I wanted to stick to what I could get for free. I tried and ended up using multiple programs. Some small, some large. Combination is key.
