2:30 AM Update Severe thunderstorms continue to affect areas just to the west and southwest of Springfield. The storms have been forming near Pittsburg Kansas and then move east towards Mount Vernon. Radar is estimating between 3.5 and 4.5 inches of rain have fallen from near Jasper Missouri to Stotts City. Flooding is becoming a real concern as additional storms form and move into the area. The storms are now dropping southeast towards Branson and it appears this trend will last into the wee hours of the morning. Large hail has also been indicated by radar greater than the size of a golfball. The lightning has been rather intense tonight and more than 200 strikes have occurred during a three minute time period. In addition the storm in western Kansas is also growing and moving east southeast towards the Ozarks. We will not know for a couple of more hours if it will have the energy necessary to make the Ozarks. Short term models still indicate this is possible so we will keep a close eye on this the rest of the night.
