€2.90 album pick @ firebox.fi/store War of Ages - Arise and Conquer CD https://youtube/watch?v=bL_hGNstZhY Christian Metalcore on fire, War of Ages doesn’t stop its angry assault here in 2008, no worries! Coming out of PA, this band’s decision to unite with Tim Lambesis, of As I Lay Dying fame, makes Arise & Conquer their best effort to date. With great production and sound quality, catchy dual guitar riffs, upbeat songwriting, and great mix of clean and harsh vocals, fans of As I Lay Dying, All That Remains, etc. will have to pick up this bad boy. Although not anywhere near epic, this band proves it has got what it takes to be successful. Under genius Lambesis, the guitar riffs and solos are the predominant factor of this album. It includes bits of thrash and nu-metal, which helps the guitars fly when in dual-lead mode. In this mode, Steve Brown and Branon Bernatowicz produce remarkable guitar solos and riffs that set the tempo and tone for Alive & Conquer. A good example of this, although there are many, is the track entitled, “Sleep of Prisoners.” You won’t find the complexity of guitars changing riffs and pace in between songs…what you will find is straight-up no bullshit metalcore that means business, the kind of business that I’m interested in investing in. The vocals are perfect for this type of genre, and in this album, it seems Leroy Hamp seems to understand the perfect formulaic mix of harsh and clean vocals, neither one taking a strong hold of the album. I even enjoyed the slow narrative that AILD does best with, promising mosh pit rage from the unique breakdown that follows. The production quality is great, recorded as the blend of guitar is out front while Hamp is mastering the vocals. It sounds as if they are on a much more larger label, and regarding this album, this should be the band’s fate. The songs itself are fast-paced, relentless in solos, and bring fire to the metalcore scene. Although relentless, there are many moments of harmonious tones in the vocals and guitar that really help shape what War of Ages is all about. Almost all the tracks are top-notch, none of which are filler. This band has shaped itself with the right kind of sound that will take them to a higher position with each following album. They have a surprising confidence, which I’m sure Mr. Lambesis had something to do with, which can take them to the next level. This album shows a great direction of sound for War of Ages. We have to look for the great bands of metalcore, not just by-the-numbers bands that are decent. This band brings this to the table for us and I was surprised at the talent as a whole. It really makes you a believer. Amazing… (allmetalresource)
