..~..2 Corinthians 1:3-4-Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort -Comfort is a rare and wonderful gift. Do you remember when you were a kid and you needed some comfort? Perhaps it was something as simple as a skinned up knee, but your mother took it seriously and gave you comfort with a bandaid and a kiss and telling you everything would be all right. Or maybe as you got older and were hurting for some reason or other, a friend comforted you with words of encouragement. Such memories are warm and wonderful. Yet sometimes the comfort of a loved one isnt enough. Sometimes the hurt is so deep that no human words help. No bandaid can cover the damage. Thats when you need to look beyond human comfort to something more effective - the comfort of God. This isnt some mystical, far away concept. God really does provide comfort to those who call on Him in times of need. The trouble is that many people are too busy blaming God for their troubles that they dont realize that He is The One who is so close and The One who wants to comfort them. Unlike human comfort, which feels good for a moment, Gods comfort supplies strength for a lifetime. When the Bible talks about Gods comfort, it describes a comfort of strength and refreshment. At the root of Gods comfort is the idea of nearness. Indeed, when God comforts us, God calls us near. (Come near to God and he will come near to you. James 4:8). We cant always choose the situations that life brings to us, but we can choose the attitude we will use to face them...~.. Make it a beautiful day! P.S. I found no comfort in making hot chocolate out of my Ensure this morning. BLEK!
