2. Corruption is rampant as is violence. The favelas are a no go zone even for the police in which Life is cheap, murder rampant, and justice rudimentary. 3. The government, as in other developing countries like Argentina, Venezuela etc keeps power by giving subsidies to the poor of which there is a huge number while squeezing the middle classes of which there are considerably less. A recipe for disaster as those who produce wealth take their money and flee if they can. The rest are stuck and this manifests itself in social unrest. 4. The country is not welcoming to tourists, travel is difficult. The fans here at the World Cup were left to fend for themselves, no assistance, no organization, nothing. We were just the props in this reality show. 5. There is little or no concept of service in hotels, which are generally sub standard and way overpriced. Southeast Asia puts this place to shame, truly. 6. There are many great Brazilian people, nice people I have met, all equally frustrated by the reality of life here, but who truly love their country and demand positive change, which I hope will come when they get rid of the current regime. Am I happy to leave, for sure. Has it been a great experience, absolutely. Do I want to spend my tourist dollars or make an investment in Brazil, absolutely not. I have still found nothing to compare to Southeast Asia and very much doubt it exists. Thanks for the experience and arrivederci Brazil.
