(2 STROKE AND DIESEL) Hi guys, I have been doing this with my Engine for quite some time now, but thought Id share. After doing more research. Have a read.. If you add two stroke oil in a ratio of 200:1 to your diesel engine it lubricates all moving parts of the high pressure pump and the injectors. This helps to offset the huge reduction of sulphur in diesel to bring the emissions down over the years. In 2001 there were 500ppm of Sulphur, today it is down to 10ppm BP Diesel. The easiest way to calculate how much to add is to divide your litres by 2 and add a 0 to the answer. You put in 82 litres of fuel, half of that is 41, add 0 so now 410ml. 410ml x 200 = 82000ml or 82 litres. You can add the two stroke oil at any time, it will mix through the diesel quick enough. There are a number of side benefits some people notice as well. The engine quietens down considerably, the fuel burns cleaner so less soot and black smoke, increased power, decreased fuel consumption and easier starting in cold weather. After reading multiple threads about it on the internet, some dating back 2-3 years nobody who has tried it has had anything negative to say about it. At worst they post that they noticed nothing extra so they stopped adding it, not bothering or believing they needed the lube properties. Im not sure about doing this on new common rail diesels, they are a bit different and require a different sort of two stroke but I didnt look into that as its not what I have available to me. The only thing I remember is the burn process went from every 6-700km to 12-1300km for one poster. The following information is only for the older style diesels. The type of two stroke oil you want to add is either mineral or semi synthetic that meets JASO FC or ISO-L-EGC / D. This has a low ash content. You do not want a fully synthetic. One that I notice a few people using is Castrol Activ 2T. I can pick that up for $6.60 a litre. If you can find a cheaper one at Big W or IGA which meets those standards its fine, the quality doesnt seem to matter. Price wise for me, both trucks get around 10km/L so for every 5,000km oil change Ive used 2.5 litres or $16.50 worth.
