2 dedicated girls have had their efforts recognised at an awards ceremony held last Tuesday in Preston. Volunteer Stephanie Tomlinson, 21 and young carer Jasmine Peach, 17 were both nominated for the prize of Young Citizen of the Year for 2013 and even though neither of them won they were both highly commended. Stephanie has been volunteering since she was just 9 years old as a member of St Johns Ambulance, thats an amazing 12 years! She also achieved the highest accolade available to a cadet in 2008 when she won a national trophy and the Grand Prior Award. She is also one of many members to leave St John and help set up a separate first aid group, Chorleys Angels. Jasmine is a young carer who helps both of her parents with everyday tasks they cant perform themselves due to illness such as helping them out of bed and arranging appointments. She is also an active fundraiser for Children In Need and helped raise money by taking collection boxes into her college.
