2 lakh cft timber for Kupwara, Baramulla Mian Altaf reviews progress of road projects, forest clearance cases KUPWARA, JULY 09: Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment, Mian Altaf Ahmad instructed Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara and officers of Forest Department to have a joint inspection alongwith the authorities of BEACON of the road projects needing forest clearance and resolve the issues impeding progress. The Minister was reviewing the status of road projects taken up at Karnah, Keran and Tangdhar in Kupwara district at an officers meeting here today. Deputy Commissioner, Kupwara, Itrat Hussain Rafiqi, Principal Chief Conservator Forests, Vinod Ranjan, Director Soil Conservation, U. Pachnada, Chief Conservator Forests I.K.Sharma, MD, SFC , senior officers of North Circle besides the officers from BEACON were present on the occasion. The Minister said Government is keen to ensure equal opportunities of development to the people of State, adding that impediments of road and irrigations projects need to be removed on priority. He asked officers to maintain close inter departmental coordination and settle all the issues hampering the development projects including irrigation and road projects coming up in Baramulla and Kupwara districts. He directed officers of forest department to have a joint visit of the projects along with Deputy Commissioner and BEACON authorities so that impediments of road and irrigation project started at Karnah, Keran and Tandhar are removed on the spot. The meeting was informed that Rs. 2.45 crore stands incurred under CAMPA in the north circle against Rs. 3 crore, which included Rs. 34 lakh spent on infrastructure development during last financial year. During the previous season Rs 8.50 lakh plants have been planted in Baramulla and Kupwara districts falling under the jurisdiction of the North Circle, it was added. Regarding timber position of north circle, it was informed that eighty thousand (80,000) Cft of timber have been stocked in the depots against the target of about 2 lakh cft fixed for current fiscal while 1.75 lakh cft of timber have been distributed among the beneficiaries of Kupwara and Baramulla districts during last fiscal, the meeting was told.
