2 years ago today, Sassie all of a sudden couldnt walk. Took her - TopicsExpress

2 years ago today, Sassie all of a sudden couldnt walk. Took her to an open late vet and they said it was a pinched nerve and she would be fine. The next day, Sassie started screaming in pain. I took her to my veterinarian, Dr. Hunter. He asked what was wrong. I said, Shes broken and I need you to fix her. I looked her over and then he left the room for a long while. He came back looking forlorned. He said, I cant fix her and no one in town can help you. Your only chance is Washington State University. So my Mom and I drove her 1.5 hours to WSU. We were met by a super sweet veterinarian student, Eric. I told him Sassies story and how special she was. I had to leave her there, one of the hardest things I have ever done. The next day I got a call from a neurologist, Dr. Krull. They wanted to do an MRI on Sassie. I said yes. They called back and the MRI was inconclusive. Her microchip was in the way and they could see her spinal column. They next tried a Mylogram, this is where they inject her with radioactive dye. They still couldnt tell exactly what was going on. He called me back later that day and said they wanted to brace her neck and see if that would work. I pictured a brace like whiplash victims wear. 2 days later Mom and I drove back to WSU to visit Sassie. She came out in a green body cast. It was huge. She looked like a catapiller. They explained that they had never seen a case like Sassies. Basically, all of her vertebrae were spaced a little too far apart and she had hydrocephalus (water on the brain). Eric admitted that Sassie was special and when he rotated off of her case, his fiance, Katheryn was going to take over. 2 days later they called and said Sassie had taken a couple of steps and peed. I could come get her. Another trip to WSU. She came home and I was a basket case. She had to be in a crate 24/7. She wouldnt sleep and whined all of the time. I finally had a full panic attack. Mom had me come to her house for dinner. Sassie had twisted herself in her cast and was in a U shape. Mom and Gary drove her back to WSU that night. The next day they called and said that they were making her a lighter cast. I went back on Monday and picked her up. Katheryn then informed me that Sassie wasnt going to die from this. She may never walk again, but she wouldnt die. I told her that Sassie would walk again, that she had people praying for her from around the world. So, for 3 months, every Monday, I would drive Sassie to and from WSU, a 3 hour round trip, to get her casts changed. She was walking and doing great, but she kept getting out of her casts. Finally I told them no more casts, Sassie was out of them before wed leave the parking lot. She went home with the promise that she would remain in the crate at all times, but to go potty. One month later, she was fully released and my miracle baby was ok. I know this was long, but it was a long adventure for us. Thanks to God and for all of the people praying for her, I have my miracle girl. :)
