20 years ago tonight, July 23rd, I debated whether or not to go to an America Online gathering at the Wallace Bowl Theater in Wilmette. At the last minute, I hopped on my 79 Yamaha and went for a ride. The Wallace Bowl is an outdoor community theater and they were performing Pippen. It was a truly awful production. During intermission, a young lady that I knew only as Kath984 through AOL conversation, touch my arm and said ‘you’re not going to back in there to watch the rest of that awful play are you? We found a table and are going to sit out here and talk.’ At the moment she touched my arm, there was what felt like an electrical tingle that went up my arm. Not like a static shock, just a tingle. Over years we have discovered numerous times that we could have met. Like, when I was dating a girl that lived across the street from her downtown Chicago. Or, when I found an attraction to a friend and coworker of hers, Ellen Mandarino. I believe that tingle, was a connection that was meant to be, had finally been made. 20 years and 2 kids later, Kathy Teschner Nelson, thank you for saving me from Act 2!! Had it not been for AOL and Ellen, Kathy and I might still be searching for each other.
