2005-2006 originally shot for the d-structure team video, for a while i considered this the best and most complete representation of my skating. between the spots, tricks, filming, editing and music, this was the happiest i had been with one of my parts. i was working towards an mba and figured this may be my last proper section before the real world took over, so i tried to make it a good one. be-mag asked for a section for under wraps, but i had already committed my best clips to d-structure and the b-sides to a werbski video: whos gay now. after talking to be-mag and d-structure, we decided that including this in the bonus of the be-mag dvd could be a cool move for all parties. and thats probably where most people saw it, as d-structure was a canadian shop that didnt sell many copies outside of canada. lots of the same spots as usual - regina and surrounding towns. more regina than usual as i finally checked off a lot of the stunts i had wanted to do for years. four or five of these were actually shot in one day in november - during my lunch break from the police and then immediately after work! the next days forecast called for a lot of snow. we debated waiting for the weekend but decided this might really be the last chance. i remember my parents were out of town so i had my dads truck to haul a piece of plywood around for a couple of the tricks. dustin and devon met me at lunch, we filmed a few things (underpass zerospin and the gap over the rail after the bridge) and i went back to work for the afternoon. at the end of the day they were waiting outside my building again. we drove over to the gap into wood under the bridge and then to the triple set gap into wood and some other spots… the next day it snowed and that was the end of our street sessions for another year. people at work were pretty stunned when i played the clips to explain why i had been rushing in and out the day before! lots of tricks in rbs. that whole razors thing didnt end up going very far so i decided to skate rbs as the canadian rep at the time was doing cool things for the local scene in canada. well, turns out this didnt last long either. rb started cutting programs all over the world, so i went back to one of my favorites again - the usd classic throne! after working with undercover for a while, usd asked if id be interested in riding for them. i loved thrones and it felt right as they were doing more than any other brands in supporting riders, tours and events. its ironic that this section, which felt like the beginning of the end of my pro skating, landed me on the usd pro team in the end! i was announced alongside billy oneill, which was a huge honor as hes one of my favorites and easily one of the best bladers of all time. baby powder clip! haha baby powder slaps used to be a recurring prank in the canadian blade scene. i see some switchups from cali - right after i got back on thrones there was a usa vs. the world game in san diego and i was chosen to be on the world team. that same weekend the rfcc held an awards ceremony for which i had been nominated international blader of the year. i didnt win, but the nomination alone was completely crazy. i had been 100% invisible from the industry for more than a year at this point! i was skating better than ever, but nobody at the rfcc had any way to know that! ao soul 360 to the road is one of my favorite tricks in this section and is a good example that filming can make or break any move. poorly filming a hot trick can really ruin it while the most basic tricks can be incredible if filmed well. theres something about the sound in this one, too. sound is another really important aspect of a good video. that gap at the end is one of the biggest ive ever done. during a trip to edmonton, i met local friend chris wedman to shoot some photos. i needed clips too but there was nobody around to film so we mostly just went around on hit-and-run photo missions. im really glad i set up to film this with a tripod because the photo turned out absolutely terrible, shrinking the perspective of the gap to look more like a few stairs than the monster it really was…
