2010 list of ten most self-enriching Presidents In early 2010, the anti-corruption Germany-based NGO Transparency International released a list of what it believes to be the ten most self-enriching leaders in recent years. In order of amount allegedly stolen (in USD), they were: 1. Former Indonesian President Suharto ($15 billion - $35 billion) 2. Former Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos ($5 billion - $10 billion) 3. Former Congolese President Mobutu Sese Seko ($5 billion) 4. Former Nigerian Head of State Sani Abacha ($2 billion – $5 billion) 5. Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milošević ($1 billion) 6. Former Haitian President Jean-Claude Duvalier ($300 million – $800 million) 7. Former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori ($600 million) 8. Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Pavlo Lazarenko ($114 million – $200 million) 9. Former Nicaraguan President Arnoldo Alemán ($100 million) 10. Former Philippine President Joseph Estrada ($78 million – $80 million) COMMENT:: 1. The Philippines has the distinction of having two (2) former presidents as 10 most corrupt in the world: Marcos and Estrada. 2. The new compilation will probably show that Arroyo will join the pack as one of the 10 most corrupt former presidents. 3. Philippines will have the honor of having three former presidents as members of the 10 most exclusive corrupt leaders in the world. 4. Ironically all these three families are still in power again, much stronger, more virulent and more suwapang and have multiplied and propagated a number of times like leaches and germs sucking whatever remaining strength our anemic country has. 4. These three former presidents and children/close relatives now; mayor, senators, congresswomen, governor, atbp are again now looting the national treasury with a vengeance, have accumulated huge amount of money and thus power, have a choke hold economically and politically on our country. Poor OFW working in far away lands, unintentionally propping up the plundering thieves. 5. Is the new Filipino generation also a lost and dysfunctional generation that has learned initially so much on how to plunder from Marcos, Estrada and Arroyo? I hope that our new best quotes will not be it is more fun to be corrupt in the Philippines and crimes and being criminals do pay only in the Philippines. 6. We never fully recover the loot, confiscate ill gotten wealth, pay fines, restitution, amendments, imprisonments disbarment from holding public offices of these shameless and conscienceless leaders. GOD HAVE MERCY ON OUR COUNTRY AND ITS PEOPLE........THE PEARL OF THE ORIENT AND THE ONLY CHRISTIAN NATION IN ASIA RAVAGED AND RAPED BY THIEVES WITH CONSENT OF ITS LOWLY PEOPLE. Where do we go from here?
