2014-06-05 MAPUTO RING ROAD CONCLUDED IN APRIL 2015 Construction of the Maputo ring road, awarded to the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), is expected to be concluded by April 2015, said the chairman of the Maputo development company Empresa de Desenvolvimento de Maputo, Paulo Fumane. The project, which is expected to cost just over US$315 million, includes construction of a 74-kilometre road that will build a North/South road between Praia da Miramar and the town of Marracuene, and along its route six bridges and three junctions to improve the flow of traffic along National Road 1 along the Zimpeto-Marracuene section. Cited by daily newspaper Notícias Fumane said that the expected date for conclusion now includes a four-month delay on the project’s contract, which stipulated December 2014. Fumane said that the bridges were delaying the work but added “ we believe it is possible to speed the work up so that by April 2015 everything will be finished including bridges and roads.” Empresa de Desenvolvimento de Maputo is a state company that manages not only construction of the Maputo Ring Road but also the bridge to Catembe and the Catembe-Bela Vista road.
