*** 2014 END OF YEAR VALOR FIGHTER AWARDS ANNOUNCEMENT *** VALOR is extremely pleased to announce its end of year awards for 2014. Dominated by three fighters in Adam the smiling assassin Cook, Callan The Rockstar Potter and The Punisher - David Butt, each winner will receive two free tickets ($960 value) to each VALOR event of 2015. ________________________________________________ **** FIGHTER OF THE YEAR **** Winner: Adam The Smiling Assassin Cook Runner Up: Callan The Rockstar Potter What a year for Burnies Adam Cook! After suffering a defeat to young, up and comer Kahn Sandy at welterweight in February, Cook recovered in impressive fashion with a technical submission victory over experienced grappler Damon Upton-Greer in April. Making the drop to lightweight in June, Cook then reigned supreme in VALORs inaugural lightweight championship title tournament, fighting a total of eight rounds across two fights in one night, ultimately defeating tournament favorite David Butt in what is now widely considered as the greatest fight in VALOR history! ________________________________________________ **** FIGHT OF THE YEAR **** Winner: Adam Cook vs. David Butt (VALOR 8) Runner Up: Callan Potter vs. David Butt (VALOR 7) It comes as no surprise that the epic back and forth five round struggle between Adam Cook and David Butt for the inaugural VALOR lightweight championship title is not only considered the greatest fight in VALOR history, but the VALOR fight of the year for 2014. Having both completed three grueling rounds to decision in their opening contests against Steven Maxwell and Chris Drummond respectively, Cook displayed domination early, almost finishing Butt on multiple occasions with a plethora of body kicks in the first round. Always the warrior and despite being under extreme duress due to multiple cuts on his face, Butt fought himself back into the contest valiantly and after almost stopping Cook with punches and a near triangle choke and arm-bar attempt in round four, he had squared up the ledger in many peoples minds, with both fighters going into the fifth and final championship round with two rounds won a piece. Ultimately, it was the younger, more experienced Cook whom charged home and claimed the memorable, unforgettable victory, and becoming VALORs first home grown champion! ________________________________________________ **** KNOCK OUT OF THE YEAR **** Winner: Callan Potter (VALOR 9) Runner Up: Callan Potter (VALOR 7) You know youve had a good year when youre nominated for not one, but two impressive head kick knockouts! VALOR Welterweight Champion Callan Potter put the entire welterweight division of Australia on notice once again and proved that his brutal head kick knockout of David Butt in February was not a fluke when he dispatched yet another title contender, Stuart Dare, with a fifth round falling tree knockout victory to finish off the year! ________________________________________________ **** SUBMISSION OF THE YEAR **** Winner: Adam Cook (VALOR: CS5) Runner Up: Adam Trickey (VALOR 8) The Smiling Assassins final fight at welterweight in VALOR got off to a near disastrous start, having been dropped flush by two spinning back fists early in his headline bout with Damon Upton-Greer in Devonport. Despite being felled twice, Cook finished emphatically, choking the much more experienced and favored grappler, Upton-Greer, unconscious with a triangle choke! ________________________________________________ * VALOR end of year awards are decided by VALOR co-founders Phillip McNally and Dan Enson Hyatt ,alongside co-owner, Jebadi Phazer. ________________________________________________ **** VALOR FIGHTER OF THE YEAR WINNERS **** 2014 - Adam Cook 2013 - Christina Tatnell 2012 - Kyle Facey **** VALOR FIGHT OF THE YEAR WINNERS **** 2014 - Adam Cook vs. David Butt 2013 - David Butt vs. Damon Upton-Greer 2012 - Bec Hyatt vs. Rachel Sheridan **** VALOR KNOCKOUT OF THE YEAR WINNERS **** 2014 - Callan Potter 2013 - Cameron Malcolm 2012 - Shaun Etchell **** VALOR SUBMISSION OF THE YEAR WINNERS **** 2014 - Adam Cook 2013 - Andrew Brumby 2012 - Kenan Pallisner
