2014 Native land, resources and customs are non negotiable Need to be vigilant against native land grab and weakening Fijian rights and customs. Last year I posted the lyrics of a song which I believed resonated with the need for all of us to ensure that native land is always protected and never lost to other races, by way of 99 year leases, as once this is done it will never be available for use by the indigenous Fijians for at least 3 generations, hence ensuring that the Fijian race, by not having access to their most important resource, will forever be consigned to poverty and the associated ills of underdevelopment. Do not get sold by roads, electricity or promises of free water and education. These can all be provided by any government, elected by the people. Do not sell off your rights and access to native land to an illegal regime headed by Bainimarama and controlled by Khaiyum. To the indigenous Fijian peoples I say: trusting Bainimarama and Khaiyum on native land will leave you landless in your own country. Bainimarama and Khaiyum are targeting native land via the equal citizenry concept, thinking people won’t pick up on their ruse. We do not want paradise lost as it relates to Fiji and native land, resources and customary rights. The song: Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell Big Yellow Taxi They paved paradise And put up a parking lot With a pink hotel *, a boutique And a swinging hot spot Dont it always seem to go That you dont know what youve got Till its gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot They took all the trees Put em in a tree museum * And they charged the people A dollar and a half just to see em Dont it always seem to go That you dont know what youve got Till its gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot Hey farmer farmer Put away that DDT * now Give me spots on my apples But leave me the birds and the bees Please! Dont it always seem to go That you dont know what youve got Till its gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot Late last night I heard the screen door slam And a big yellow taxi Took away my old man Dont it always seem to go That you dont know what youve got Till its gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot They paved paradise And put up a parking lot jonimitchell/music/song.cfm?id=208
