2014 YEAR IN REVIEW Merry Christmas to everyone in the MU family…athletes, coaches, alumni, and supporters. Our beloved programs had a successful year, and this installment of YEAR IN REVIEW is a prime example of the heights MU track and field athletes achieved this year. Thanks for all of your support! MU Track & Field Has Historic May! May 3: Millersville Finishes in Third at PSAC Outdoor Championships for Highest Placing Since 1996 The Marauders achieved two 1st place finishes at PSAC’s. Kiara Allen earned an All-PSAC, first-place finish in the 100 in 11.79, just .05 seconds from a meet record. The last Marauder woman to win the 100 was Christina Carpenter back in 2005 (11.93). All-PSAC performers Aniya Gibbs, Amanda Long, Brittney Martin, and Megan Meyer won the 4x800 meter relay and set a meet record of 9:16.53. It marked the first time a women’s team from Millersville cracked the top 3 in that event. Shannon Cruz took second place in the 10,000 meter run with a personal-best time. The freshman from Lancaster, Pa. earned All-PSAC honors with a career-best time of 37:25. Ann Kovacs took second place, All-PSAC honors in the hammer throw with a toss of 49.02 meters, Vanessa Hower was right behind her in third (48.97) for All-PSAC and Kelli Farris rounded out the top five with a finals distance of 47.56 meters. Arianna Camel placed sixth in the heptathlon with a point total of 4,195. That was quite the improvement from her score of 3,990 at the West Chester Invite when she was competing in her first ever heptathlon. In the 4x100-meter relay, Kiara Allen, Kayla Naughton, Erin Mason, and Jess Fritsche placed second and earned All-PSAC honors with a time of 47.42 after they set a Millersville record in the preliminaries at 47.24. No quartet has finished better than third in that event since 1992 (48.69/first). For the 100 meter hurdles, Erin Madison sprinted to a fifth-place finish in 14.67. Madison then shattered her own record in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.85 and placed second for an All-PSAC nod with an even lower NCAA provisional. She finished in second for the 400-meter hurdles last season as well. May 9: Hammer Throwers Compete At Penn State Kelli Farris, Ann Kovacs and Vanessa Hower placed fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, at the Jim Thorpe Invitational. May 12: Six Marauders Are USTFCCCA All-Region Performers The U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its Division II All-Region honors for the 2014 outdoor season, and Millersville had its most ever honorees with six on the list of 619 female athletes. The six Marauders to make the list were Kiara Allen (100 meters), Shannon Cruz (10,000 meters), Kelli Farris (hammer), Vanessa Hower (hammer), Ann Kovacs (hammer), and Erin Madison (400-meter hurdles). Cruz also received an All-Academic award for cross country in February. May 22: Kiara Allen Competes at the NCAA National Championships Kiara Allen finished in eighth place in heat one of the 100-meter preliminaries at the NCAA Championships in Allendale, Mich. Her time of 12.00 did not qualify for the finals. It was her first appearance at Nationals.
