2014 is the International Year of Family Farming - IYFF. Many family farmers are in mountains and around 40 percent of mountain populations in developing countries - 300 million people - are food insecure, with half of them suffering from chronic hunger, according to a Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) publication.
