2014 was a great year for the University of Wisconsin - Whitewater Mens Bowling Team. Some of our successes included: - January 18-19 the team finished 4th in the 56 team Kegel/ISBPA Midwest Classic - February 9th the team captured their second Wisconsin Collegiate Bowling Conference Championship in three years! - February 17th, the team finished the regular season ranked 8th in the nation. Not only was this the highest ranking every in Warhawks history but the team was also the highest ranked team in the nation that did not provide any athletic scholarship to their athletes! - March 14-16 the team traveled back to Allentown, PA to compete in the Intercollegiate Sectional Championships. After a dominating performance on Saturday, the team was able to finish second and earn a trip to their second Intercollegiate Team Championships in program history! - April 5-6 the team participated in the inaugural Intercollegiate Club Championships! While they won their bracket, they fell in the Quarterfinals. - April 15-21 the team traveled to Reno, NV for the Intercollegiate Team Championships! While the team didnt find the team results they were looking for, there was some success in the event! Nick Kruml was named both a NCBCA Second Team All American as well as an IBMA Bowler of the Year Honorable Mention. Head Coach Shawn Wochner was also named the NCBCA Coach of the Year! - Over the summer/early fall, the team was signed to a collegiate contract with Roto Grip, Realbowlerstape and Vise Inserts! We are very grateful to be a part of the best staffs in the bowling industry! - September 4-6, the team conducted their tryouts for the 2014-15 season. The coaches were forced to cut players from the travel roster for the first time during their five year tenure. The team had 27 potential players compete in all phases of tryouts before cutting to the 24 which were selected to be a part of the travel roster. - During the fall 2014 travel schedule, the team improved each of their performances from the Fall 2013 semester! - The team placed at least one individual on the All Tournament Team in 7 out of the 8 tournaments in which they competed in during the fall semester. - The team had a record 5 players earn a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher, thus earning Academic All American status: Ryne Greenwood, Aaron Jewell, Lucas Krueger, Noah Padgett and Sam Shepard! - December 27-28, the team recorded a second place finish in the Roto Grip Keystone Quaker Classic, which is the highest finish ever in a Tier 1 for the UW Whitewater program. - During the fall semester, the team was extremely successful. Individually, the team has several of the nations top players (by average) in the program: 1. Kevin Scholz - 220.125, 4. Nick Kruml - 214.872, 5. Bobby Phillips - 213.613, 9. Josh Pritchard - 211.621, 13. Christopher Wiley - 210.12 and 25. Ryne Greenwood - 206.548. Chris Wiley is also the top rookie in the nation. Corben Sadowski currently ranks 5th amongst rookies with an average of 202.481. The team saw 7 different bowlers Dan Reinke, Nick Kruml, Jordan Hastings, Bobby Phillips, Kevin Scholz, Josh Pritchard and Ryne Greenwood) earn 12 different All Tournament Team spots! - During the fall semester, the team was extremely successful. As a team, they won 2 Tier 2 events, placed in the top 8 in all three Tier 1 events and made it to the finals of the Leatherneck Classic! - Because of the teams success during the fall 2014 semester, the team finds themselves ranked 3rd in the nation! 2014 was obviously a great year for the Warhawks! Thank you to everyone who has helped to make our program what it is today. This goes out to the alumni who competed previously, all of our current players, all of the parents of current and former players, administrators at UWW like David Halbach and James Friel, my amazing Assistant Coaches Kris Beach and Nathan Reetz, our amazing sponsors as well as all of our supporters! Super excited to see what 2015 has in store for the team!
