2015: JUXTAPOSING PROPHECIES AND ILLUSIONS By Joseph Atainyang The up-coming 2015 gubernatorial elections in Nigeria is all ready engraved in a massive web of confusion, misfiring and apparent uncertainties. Everywhere seems to be saturated as verbal arrows continually fly on daily basis threatening to tear the heavens into pieces or perhaps blindfold some people with the wide flesh of the white firmament. All these are possible because many have vowed to employ diabolic means to conjure their fortunes and have the fair chance to be victorious. Another major weapon of these mass deception and misconception is the prophetic utterances of some sight-seers in our generation. This to me is particularly the most dreaded mercenary in the hands of aspirants. Unfortunately, some of these prophets are unabashedly settled for prophetic mercantilism. As a result, it becomes sacrosanct to “blow” the utterance so that the expected dividends would not be stagnant from continuous yielding. A prophecy is always a statement of what will happen in the future. If one therefore says anything positive about a candidate, the hope of being paid the bill was readily assured. But, one stinking thing about these supposed prophecies dangle in the truth that when one’s eyes is not open to see, nor the ears open to hear from the owner of future reality, they decide to conjecture their thoughts into reality thereby landing them in their creative world of illusions. These illusions therefore would be their self-manufactured products to be exchanged for money. The negative effect of this is conspicuous and such instances as it concerns our president, Goodluck Jonathan, our Governor, Godswill Akpabio, Udom Emmanuel, Jerome Isangedighi, Benjamin Okoko, Umana Okon Umana, Nya Ebito and others are here examined. The potency of real prophecy need not be over-emphasized. People who have the rare privilege to communication with the highest being (God) or the deities always rely extensively on prophecies. Sometimes, prophecies strengthen people and encourage them to forge ahead with the hope of actualizing their intentions. Dreams and visions too, are very essential realities that can spur a person into higher grounds of ambition. A person who dreams can work towards instituting or averting it depending on its tone and perhaps how the person interprets it. Exploring the historical web of English literature, one is flooded with endless list of characters whose dreams and encounters with oracles of God or the gods became successful in life or fell, due to misunderstandings or extremities with prophecies and dreams. From the classical, through the renaissance to the modern times, and even biblical evidences prove that these two are synonymous with success or failure depending on their applications. Almost all our governorship aspirants in Akwa Ibom State have posited that God wants them to govern the state. While some may have dreamt of it or wander in hallucination which may have been ignited by their suppressed intention or sprung by their sub-consciousness, others have both encountered these, the Supreme Being or have been given words of prophecies which convince them that they are the actual will of God for the state. Beginning with Obong Umana, sight-seers had long prophesied that he would take over from Akpabio as governor even when he was still the secretary to Akwa Ibom State government. Again, some prophets have prophesied in chains that Akwa Ibom State governor, Godswill Akpabio and the immediate past SSG, Udom Emmanuel will be successful in their contests as senator and governor respectively. It is not baffling however those uncountable soothsayers have newly been recruited and mandated for giving seeming falls prophecies. These line of prophets are also of the view that President Jonathan will win elections in 2015. Listening to the stories of Justice Nya Ebito (rtd), the state house member, Jerome Isangedighi, Benjamin Okoko, and very many others would certainly throw one into the ocean. While one may not for now take sides or doubt the authenticities of each of these episodes, there will abound some degrees of actuality among them. These aspirants have in one way or the other encounter in non-human realm their acceptance by God to be the governors of Akwa Ibom State. It is true for instance, that the founder of Thunder World Outreach Ministry, Apostle Andrew Wilson had just last week told Benjamin Okoko that a white canopy of victory has descended for him. This implies that as widely known by biblical scholars, Okoko will wear a white garment of victory which is meant for those who are victorious in any battle. More so, let us review the prophecies of the founder of Omega Fire Ministry (OFM), Apostle Johnson Suleiman about the 2015 general elections. Straightway, he was reported to have recently said that unknown man will governor Akwa Ibom State in 2015. For the presidency, the fire-filled prophet had very repeatedly warned that President Jonathan should not contest for the seat. For this oddity, one might be curious to digging deep into some of his prophecies and his personality in a way of trying to balance such audacity. This quickly brings to focus the fact that 45 of his prophecies uttered on January 2013 had witnessed global attention through their respective manifestations. He had told the president many things in addition. Accordingly, it was said that men from his place will fight him; he should pray against death in his immediate family and that there is vacancy in Aso Rock. He as well revealed that Dame Patience Jonathan will have health issues unless prayers are made. Accordingly, PDP has since then witnessed serious infighting which is still heating till now. Patience Jonathan, the wife of Mr. President was silence for almost a week last year due to severe health issues that nearly made the nation weap. Also, the servant of God had said on one hand that the then Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr) Ado Bayero needed to pray against his life and on the other hand that the then Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi will be made an Emir even when he was yet to be sacked by the federal government. These are more of the prophecies of prophet Suleiman which have all come to pass. More of this could be seen in Vanguard of 29 Jan. 2013 and the Voice magazine. This may be one of the reasons the defected House of Reps, speaker, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal has chosen to drop his presidential ambition for his state governorship having been cautioned by the prophet in the same series of prophesies. Just few weeks ago, the regional overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministry (MFM) in charge of Calabar and Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Ezekiel Jimor Abayomi shocked Akwa Ibom people with his prophetic declaration that an unknown man will rule Akwa Ibom in 2015. The pastor who advised every politician to remain peaceful admitted that anybody who decides to trouble the state shall be disciplined by God. The important thing here is the synchronic synthesis of the prophecies of the two prophets. They have so fearlessly declared their positions such that one needs not disregard how true they are. Considering all these therefore, there is a serious need to condense the political situation of our country in line with the supposedly divine mandate of our numerous aspirants. First, is God the one speaking to all these people? Would President Jonathan not win next year’s elections? Who then would preside over this country from May 29, 2015? Would Akpabio win his senatorial ambition? How about the much prophesied and widely publicized Udom Emmanuel? Are others whom God or the “gods” have spoken to not group themselves and assume the position of a governor in 2015? Perhaps this will be the first time the state will have more than one chief-executive. This is invariably drawn from the multiple “God says” syndromes of the office seekers and to a large extent; God is not an author of confusion. Although it is evident that these prophets may speak just as did Balaam in the Holy book, their inconsistency is a clear sign of prophetic madness. It only reminds one of Isaiah’s proclamation, where the false prophets were cursed by the divine deity for looting the nation and causing war among the people. “God is indeed not an author of confusion”, agreed; but, this confusion may become raw-materials for God’s miracle. Both the dreams and vain visions of the prophets shall come and go, but the perfect will of God for Nigeria and Akwa Ibom shall stand. In the end, it shall be made known to Nigeria and Akwa Ibom what the will of God is.
