2015: Nyako’s Wives At War Over Successor The battle for a successor to embattled governor of Adamawa state, Murtala Nyako has moved to his home front, as two of his wives are at each other’s throat over who should take the baton from their husband in 2015. Nyako has four wives, the maximum permitted by Islam. Nigerian Pilot Sunday exclusively gathered that the battle for Nyako’s successor is between the Governor – mother of his first son, Navy Commander Abdul Azizzi Nyako on one hand and Hajia Zainab Nyako whose daughter, Zainab, is married to one of Nyako’s aide, Dr Salihu Bakari Girei on the other hand. Dr Bakari is the Adamawa state Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs. According to a reliable source close to the Adamawa state first family, Governor Nyako has been grooming his first son to take over from him in 2015 and the young man had to cut short a promising military career to understudy his father in the art of governance. It was gathered that while Abdul Azizzi was waiting in the wings to take over from his father, one of his -half sisters, Zainab, also showed interest in becoming first lady of Adamawa like her mother and started laying the grounds for her husband to take over from her father. Zainab’s mother was said to have bought into the scheme for her son-in-law to become the next governor but the governor will not hear of it as he insisted that he preferred his first son to take over from him. This misunderstanding was said to have boiled over penultimate Friday when two of Nyako’s wives were said to have engaged in shouting bouts over the governor’s possible successor. Furious over the crack within his immediate family concerning the governorship ambition of his son-in-law, Governor Nyako was said to have threatened to sack Dr Bakari from the state cabinet. However, close associates of the governor were said to have prevailed on him to jettison the idea of sacking his son-in-law as the scandal that will likely follow may be unmanageable for him, more so, when there is impeachment threats hanging on his neck. Nigerian Pilot Sunday recalls that when the political crack within Nyako’s family became public knowledge; his son-in-law had made spirited efforts to dispel the rumor. Fielding questions from members of the Adamawa Correspondents’Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Dr. Salihu Bakari Girei declared that Nyako’s family is indivisible contrary to speculations in the state. “Apart from being a commissioner in Nyako’s cabinet, the governor took me as one of his biological sons. I don’t have any problem with my brother, Abdul Azizi. We are working towards the same political interest by making All Progressives Congress, APC, a formidable party in the state, which is the matching order given to us by Governor Murtala Nyako.
