2015: SAMBO NOT A THREAT TO APC IN NORTH-WEST –Shekarau… Former governor of Kano State and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, at the weekend declared that Vice-President Namadi Sambo has no followers to match APC in 2015 elections in the North-West zone. Speaking at a political conference in Kaduna, Shekarau said with VSambo, it would be a walkover for the APC, noting that the Vice-President had not performed even in his home state in 2011 polls. Shekarau explained that APC would as much as possible comply with international standard of good governance, stressing that the party members are determined and committed to enforce that for Nigerians. His words: “We have come a very long way. It is not about where you come from or what office you occupy. Of course, it is common knowledge that the Vice-President belongs to the wrong group. That he is from the North-West does not give us any threat. In fact, as far as the zone is concerned, it is a walkover for the APC. Go and check the records. If the Vice- President is not able to perform in his own home state in 2011, he will fail again in 2015. “ It is not about the PDP government in Kaduna, but the acceptability of those leading. If you are not accepted and you are not free to move about, then you are not in charge. The fact that the VP of the PDP government is from the North-West does not give us any concern. As far as we are concerned, it is a walkover.” Shekarau said whether they are in office or not, whoever was elected on the platform of APC at all levels, no stone would be left unturned to ensure that he/she would be reminded of the vision of the party. “We will mobilise the general public to insist that whoever leads us from the local government to the national level will exhibit the right conduct that will give us the best government in Nigeria,” he assured. He added: “APC is not just change of government, but change of attitude and people must vote according to their belief and consciousness of accepting who will do the right thing. People should stop voting because of a packet of omo or sugar.” Earlier, Natiownal Interim Chairman of APC, Bisi Akande, said the party has no place for godfathers, maintaining that those who want to be should immediately join PDP before it will be too late. Represented by former minister of Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasiru el-Rufai, the APC chairman said the party would begin registration next month. “Nobody will take the APC and put it in his pocket. We will have no godfathers in this party. All those who want to be godfathers should go the PDP. I want to appeal to you to register en masse, pick the right people and vote for them as leaders. Our intention as the interim national leaders is to do this for about six months. We hope that registration will start next month and when pilgrims return from hajj, congresses will start. Our intention is to have the national convention latest by January 2014.”
