2015: Shema Urges Prayers For Successor Katsina State governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema yesterday urged clerics in the state to pray for the emergence of a successor who will sustain the current programmes and policies being implemented by his administration. Speaking when he flagged off the disbursement of monthly allowances to about 2,000 Muslim clerics who comprise mainly of imams of jumaat mosques, Shema tasked them to pray for God to bless the state with a worthy successor. Shema, who spoke briefly in Hausa, enjoined the clerics to pray for the emergence of someone who “will jealously guard resources of the state and continue with the good work we have started” even as he attributed the successes of his administration to God. “Nigeria is in serious need for prayers and so we must pray for an end to current insurgency and for a lasting peace in the nation in general,” he said. He said from his assumption of office in 2007 to date, his administration had built over 500 mosques across the state even as the state government also funded the renovation of numerous mosques and Islamiyya school. Shema assured that the state government would expand its Allo model school feeding programme and put in place necessary measures to ensure its sustainability. He disclosed that the state government had resolved to be providing monthly allowance to select imams just as civil servants are getting salaries, and assured that the allowance, which is in three categories, would eventually be improved upon. 2 hours ago
