2015 Tampa Bay Frogman Swim debriefing. Sunday morning I swam 3.1 miles across Tampa Bay in 1:31 minutes (according to my Garmin). The water temperature was 59 degrees, the currents were nasty, I threw up twice and my calves cramped up within the first mile, but it was a beautiful morning otherwise. Most importantly, exactly 50 of my friends and family donated $3,200 to injured and fallen U.S. Navy SEALs and their families. You all have no idea how much that means to me...all I did is swim, you are the ones who made a difference, and made my swim mean something, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It was an emotional day, as the names of every SEAL who has been killed since 9/11 were read off before the swim, and we were joined by a few Gold Star families who expressed their gratitude for YOUR contributions. I want to specifically thank my kayaker, Jenna Shiver, for escorting me safely across the bay. I want to thank my friend Harold Rosenbaum for being there to transport my truck across the bay, as well as offering moral support. My parents, Brenda Wright Bowen and Larry Bowen for being on that beach to see me off. My team mates, Jordan Raynovich, Amy Lynn, and Jennifer Rhyner, as well as my friends, John Atkins, Richard Jansik, Jason Grimes,and Brooke Bennett, for giving the sharks some extra choices. Tim Robinson and Liz Kollar for getting my friends safely across the bay. Chelsey Welden and Juli Christ for classing up the after party. Kurt Ott, Kathy Ott, Courtney Mickiewicz, and Dan OShea for their tireless work on this event (and specifically Courtney for her cookies and Dan for that ice cold Budweiser at the finish). Ben Goettler and Jack Shuten for volunteering for this amazing event. And of course Scott Bill, for raising a hero who paid the ultimate sacrifice so that we may continue to enjoy the freedom we do.
