22 YEAR OLD FEMALE ISRAELI NATIONAL ARRESTED FOR TRAFFICKING IN CANNABIS The Drug Enforcement Commission in Eastern Province has arrested a 22 year-old female Israeli national for trafficking in cannabis. Rona Latz, 22, an Israeli national of Tomer in Israel has been arrested for trafficking in one (01) roll of cannabis weighing 12g. The suspect was apprehended at Mwami Border on a Lusaka bound bus as she was coming from Malawi. Ms Latz has since pleaded guilty to trafficking in cannabis after appearing in the Chipata Magistrate Court. However trial continues on 25th April for mention and 29th April for facts. She is currently detained at Namuseche State Prison in Eastern Province. And in a separate incidence, the Commission in Eastern Province has arrested six (06) peasant farmers in Chief Chinunda’s area for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants. Those arrested and jointly charged include Veronica Mwale, 33, a peasant farmer of Chandawira village in Chipata and Saulosi Kaba, 57, of Singini village for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants intercropped with cotton weighing 360kg. Also arrested and jointly charged is Peter Banda, 30, of Bamoyo Salekana farm and Enelesi Banda, 33, of Kaguluke farm for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 182.5kg. Others arrested are Faindani Banda of Nkhale Sapasa farm for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants in a maize field weighing 58kg and Joseph Mbewe, 23, of Mabvuto Saona Nkhope farm for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 38.9kg. Meanwhile the Commission in Luapula Province has arrested Mwape Miti, 30, of Tambalala village in Mansa District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 30.21kg. And in Central Province the Commission has arrested and jointly charged Helton Sinyangwe, 21, a Charcoal Burner of Green Leaf area in Kapiri Mposhi and Kelvin Sinyangwe, 21, also of the same area for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 25.7kg.
